Default Flat Battery - Boot Key Lock Seized

The battery in my X300 Sovereign is flat and the boot key lock is seized up.
If I connect a charged battery positive feed to one of the engine bay fuse boxes and a negative to an earthing post, will this give me power to unlock the boot using the boot release button?

I could then access and charge the battery.

Hi Chas,
Yes it would. May I also suggest that once the battery has been recharged, you spray the bootlock with WD40 or something similar, leave for 24 hours and gently work the key in the lock.
This will help to avoid a similar situation in the future.

Hope this helps,

Just to check; you're not trying to use the green key in the boot lock, are you?

That was very polite, Jim.
Easily forgotten but, once again, message to all our readers - even if it's raining go out now and check your boot lock works.
I put some 3in1 on the key but if I knew what I was doing I'd use proper lock lubricant.
Lock lubricant in the Limousin ! You can buy cart axle grease and rings for pig's noses in the ironmongers but lock lubricant ??

Thanks Jim, it worked a treat, boot open and battery removed and charging. boot striker removed so I don't lock myself out before the battery goes back in,and at the first opportunity will check/lubricate the key lock and internals to make sure it works in future.

Just checking! Glad you got it sorted

I don't know about in France, but here you can get lock lubricant from pretty much anyone that'll cut keys - Timpsons etc.

Well then you don't need lock lubricant. The tumblers are so big the lock lubricant wouldn't stay. You pack them with the cart axle grease from the ironmonger.

See how well your local retailers understand their market?
