Default Convertible top - blowing fuses

Have a 2004 Xkr that is blowing the 40 amp fuse when operating the top. Rear windows will go down and back up, but the fuse will snap instantly with no indication of anything even trying to operate. Pressure relief vavle was installed two years ago. Has anyone had to trouble shoot this kind of problem?

I hope this is not the case with you but when I started blowing fuses when hitting the roof button, it turned out the be a bad pump motor. If you look back through some of the threads I posted when this happened to me, there were posts by others that included ways of trying to isolate the problem before assuming it is the pump--do a search for those posts.

If you unplug the 2 prong black wire/white wire connector and it no longer blows the fuse, you almost certainly have a bad pump.

There are a number of used ones on ebay at the moment at decent prices: jaguar xk8 convertible pump | eBay

A new one lists for $6900 !!! ... probably a non-starter.

This has got to be faulty information. I think when I and the dealer were searching around for a replacement pump, an OEM from Jaguar was about $2,000. This is still quite a ridiculous price but it was covered by warranty. If it was coming out of my pocket the better way to go would be to find someone that repairs electric motors.

It certainly could be an error, but it would not surprise me if it is not.

The car is out of production, and Jag may have had to fund a manufacturing source for a very low volume replacement market. That in combination with their usual exhorbitant markup could lead to a price like this.

If it were the motor I would pull the pump and see if it could be rebuilt.
