Smile Rear Sensor Ring Issues

I posted on another thread Forum a couple of days ago and it was suggested that I post on this X Type Forum to get more response. First I want to thank JimC64 for posting the Bob Bates full article it is very helpful.

We have a Jag 2002 X type 3.0 with code C1175 and ABS/Engine lights on. The ABS is activated all the time when we brake.
In reviewing the Bob Bates article and looking into the inspection hole shown in article (Fig3) on the left rear wheel on the Jag. I see a copper looking ring with very small height to the raised spaces (Or Teeth) approx. 1/16 high. Then I did the same inspection on the Right side and found a ring that looks more like the Bates article ring (Fig 2). My question is two fold. 1) what am I seeing on the left side is this some kind of ring or the remnants of a broken ring? should I replace just the ring or the whole outer CV joint?
By the way thanks for that great Bates article it is very helpful

The technical term for these rings is "reluctor ring" because it uses something called reluctance to count the teeth as the joint or bearing revolves. Simply put, it is resistance in a magnetic field rather than an electric circuit. As the teeth pass the reluctor magnet a pulse is generated. Crankshaft position sensors use a similar system.

What usually happens is they rust and break so the count process no longer works correctly, especially at low speeds. This happened to me with a Rover 25, a small car my wife had. It is also hazardous because the anti-lock switches in when not needed, (like braking on a dry road) thus lengthening the braking distance. The rings have in the past not normally been separately available, only the whole joint or bearing, but good news is there are suppliers on the internet and the X-Type rear rings are available. This is a UK site which ships internationally, but I suspect there are USA suppliers for the same thing.
