Default 1998 XJ8L drivers door panel removal

I need to replace the plastic insert that the door open lever is mounted in. I have searched the forum, found some great information although many posts start with "remove the door panel" doh!
I found a post that had some images but cannot view them as I am a newbie so here is the first of my required posts.
Any tips to remove this panel with no damage would be most welcome and also a good source of parts.
Need insert for door, retrtacting antenna and passenger side foglight.
Sorry if I am
Thx

If you mean the black plastic "cup" behind the interior door opening lever, then you do not need to remove the panel itself.

Removing the cup is the first step in removing the door panel.

It is held by a screw hidden behind a plastic plug that needs to be removed using a sharp instrument. It is almost impossible to not damage the plug and it will fly out causing hours of searching ... before finding it sitting behind the lever

Two jewelers' screw drivers will work. One to pry and lift. The other to hold position while moving the first one to get more out. There is a small notch at either 3 or 9 o'clock that is helpful except that you wouldn't know about it until you have done it at least once and have bothered to look at the plug before reinstallation.

As usual, lubing the piece can be helpful if you ever have to follow the path again.

In removing the door panel veneer trim everyone tells you to lift the rear portion away and then slide backwards. What is not mentioned is that the rear retaining lugs must clear the retaining clips or it won't slide. The lugs are a half inch long.

I have removed the outer cup having managed to break it away from the inner retaining screw so out came the epoxy and that is curing. If I now remove the wood trim as you suggest will this give me sufficient access to the mechanism to replace the part that the chrome lever fit into with I think a small retaining pin?

ok so how do you get the veneer panel off the inside of the door. I have removed the handle recess cover and the inner retaining screw, tried to slide the veneer panel forward and it moves about 1/2" and no further but does not come out. Must admit I am a bit concerned about yanking it too hard in case I bust it at the thin end.

Hi
Update - I found this post about using thin plastic levers in another forum thread- there is a comment exacted from it:
Here is motorcarman reply in the general tech section thread:

Go to a windscreen/windshield shop and get some plastic pry sticks. They are like THICK popsicle sticks and have rounded tapered and wedge ends (opposite). I use these ALL THE TIME.

I also need to remove the front door panel - problem with the windows not going down all the way. I brought some wooden craft sticks at our local Walmart store (150 pieces pack for $2.99). I will be trying to use them on the veneer door piece (I am not sure if they are thin enough).

Here is information of the front door panel R&R:
Look at posts numbers 6 thru 8 on forum thread that includes the steps on how to replacing door mirror (also PDF file extracts from JTIS21 shop repair manual - for R&R of the door panel):
