I have tried keys but the lock will not cooperate.

The battery is dead after 3 months resting in the garage :|

Does anybody know some smart fix for this?

It is rather urgent (I am supposed to be driving my friend and his lovely bride for their wedding on Saturday!!).

Hopefully you don't have valet mode set!!! Open the bonnet and locate one of the fuseboxes. At the corner of the box is a stud with a 13mm nut on it. Jump 12v to the fuse box stud and run around and open the boot. Voila!!

Isn't there a manual release for this as well? Have you tried using the key in the boot lock?

Unfortunately, there isn't any manual release on the X300's. They didn't even have the emergency inside release that most all cars have now.

Bummer!

 

There is indeed a smart fix for this one gentlemen. lift the hood/bonnet depending on where ye hail from. Attach a battery starter positive lead to the positive post on the firewall, you will need to pull aside the rubber cover and make sure not to arc the positive lead to the fire wall. Attach the battery starter to the engine block some place and when the starter is on, go unlock your trunk either with the fob or the key.

You may also do this with jumper cables from another car, but you must be careful not to arc the positive post on the firewall to the firewall itself.

Write me back if these instructions don't make sense.

 

I remember opening the trunk with the pressing the "D" or growler logo in the middle of the chrome plinth when I used to have an X300 . You could hear a clicking sound with your finger pressed onto the button ,that's strange please keep us updated

The trick with the stud on the 13mm nut worked. I got power to use the central locking.

The battery is charged and I am back on the road again :-)

I will stop by the local Jag workshop and ask the why the key does not open the the boot.

Another issue: The radio is asking for code... There is no code stated in the service book. Does anybody know how to get the code?

As for the key lock mechanism a few spritzers with your favorite aerosol lubricant/penetrant will usually bring it back to life. Once you have it working you should exercise it occasionally to prevent it from seizing up again. Doing so is part of my oil change checklist :-)

I think any Jag dealer can get the radio unlock code for you.

Did you ever use the key to open the boot or didn't you bother because you had other means of doing so?
Reason I ask is because after I mistakenly switched to valet mode I found that I could not open the boot by any means as even the key didn't work. Went into the house and sought out my other key which I never used and then discovered that this was the 'master' key and would open the boot. The key I had been using prior to this had been the valet key and therefore wouldn't open the boot!

I'm "back in the saddle again" :-)

I did have an experience today which was rather strange. The Oil pressure gauge was "alive" moving up and down, really without any sense. Sometimes even showing no pressure at all (and red oil lamp flashing).

However, I did check the oil (there is plenty), and the gauge suddenly decided to tell me that everything is ok...

So: I guess this has to be a case of a bad sensor?

Tomorrow the it's time for a full check at a local workshop :-) (Owner is a freind of my brother in law, so I trust they will figure it out). Still on Tuesday it's back to Norway again, and I'm without the Jag for a few weeks (will go back to

to Poland for Easter :-) ).

Hi Cato, I know for a fact that Jaguar replaced the oil sender for the very reason you mention. I had the previous sender and the needle was forever bouncing from low to high in a frightening manner! I believe Jaguar got many complaints of concern from owners and decided to replace the sender unit. Now the needle just rises to the one position showing a fixed oil pressure and only goes down when the engine is switched off.
