I don't think the CATS system was available on the XK8 until the 2002/2003 model year. Year dependent on which side of the pond you live on.

Yours must be retrofitted I would suspect, but that must have been a lot of trouble. You certain you have the active suspension? Is there a wire running from the top of each shock tower inside the engine bay?

I have 2000 XKR convertible, it has an armoured wire going to the top of the front shocks, is this the CATS system then? And if so how do I know it works properly? Mine does not seem that stiff when cornering? Any ideas?

Yes that is the indication and I believe most XKRs had adaptive dampening. There are accelerometers built into the system to activate, you may not see much diff unless you push it a bit, one way I think is to pull the fuse then it defaults to 'stiff' I think. Someone will probably clarify.

Ok cool, so I have CATS, but hard cornering it leans over and almost wants to throw you out of your seat, no warning lights and no leaks in the shocks or loose roll bar rubbers all seems pretty tight underneath, sits square no sag and sticks to the road pretty good too. Just can't work out why it's leans over so much round corners? Does not seem like anything stiffen up suspension wise to me?

You can try fuse 2 & 4 in the boot/trunk, this feeds the Adaptive suspension module, I'm not sure but u might get a cel indicating suspension fault but you can then see if there's any diff.
